Who We Are:
The California EDGE Coalition – a coalition of business, labor, social justice, education and workforce organizations – working to advance state policy and investments that create and sustain pathways into the middle class for all Californians, including individuals facing barriers to economic and social mobility.

Position Summary:
The Executive Director will be a strategic leader who, with the Board, will establish a vision for the organization’s efforts to close California’s education and workforce skills and equity gaps to achieve a broadly-shared prosperity and economic mobility for all Californians. Working in partnership with the Board of the California EDGE Coalition, the Executive Director will be responsible for:

  • Working with the Executive Committee of the Board to develop by-laws, establish an annual operating budget, and develop a long-range plan for growth and sustainability.
  • Building the capacity of the Board and working with the Board to set the organization’s annual agenda.
  • Developing and implementing operational policies and processes needed to run a highly effective organization.
  • Developing and advancing policy ideas to drive the organization’s missions and goals.
  •  Providing educational briefings and materials to advance the organization’s policy goals.
  • Advocating for legislative and administrative actions to support the organization’s policy goals.
  •  Maintaining strong relationships with the state legislature, administration, and key stakeholders.
  •  Developing and maintaining the organization’s communications plan.
  •  Researching, identifying and soliciting appropriate foundations and other funders to support fundraising goals.
  • Hiring, leading and overseeing staff of the organization.

Desired Experience, Qualifications and Abilities:

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience working in a legislative setting.
  • Knowledge of workforce education and training issues.
  • Previous experience working as an Executive Director, with the governing board of a non-profit organization, and/or in leadership of a complex coalition with diverse perspectives is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build statewide and regional relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise funds and resources to sustain and grow an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to make data informed strategic decisions.

Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time position. Salary is DOE. CalPERS retirement and health/dental benefits package is provided.
